A genuinely influential HR role in a growing, privately owned business

We’re working with a successful, privately owned business that has grown significantly over recent years and now employs around 100 people across the North of the UK.

As the business continues to evolve, they are looking to appoint a People & Culture Manager to take ownership of the people agenda and help build a more proactive, engaging and commercially focused HR function.

This is a newly created role with genuine scope to make your mark. Reporting to the Managing Director and sitting on the management team, you’ll work closely with senior leaders and operational managers to improve performance, strengthen management capability and develop the culture of the business.

The Role

This is a broad, hands-on HR role rather than a purely policy or compliance position. You’ll be the go-to HR partner for managers and employees, providing practical advice while introducing the structure and processes needed to support continued growth.

A key priority will be performance management. Currently, the business has limited formal processes around one-to-ones, appraisals and KPIs, giving you the opportunity to introduce a practical framework that managers and employees can genuinely engage with.

You’ll also be responsible for:

  • Coaching and supporting managers across the full employee lifecycle
  • Providing hands-on employee relations and HR advice
  • Developing performance management, appraisals and KPI processes
  • Improving employee engagement and company culture
  • Strengthening HR policies, processes and systems
  • Supporting recruitment and organisational growth
  • Helping managers become more confident in dealing with people issues
  • Mentoring and developing an existing HR administrator
  • Acting as a trusted and credible member of the management team

About You

We’re looking for an experienced HR Generalist, HR Manager or HR BusinessPartner who enjoys working in a growing SME environment.

You’ll be someone who is:

  • Warm, approachable and genuinely people-focused
  • Commercial, pragmatic and hands-on
  • Confident challenging and influencing managers at all levels
  • Comfortable working in an environment where HR processes are still developing
  • Strong across employee relations and generalist HR
  • Experienced in improving performance and management capability
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
  • Interested in shaping culture rather than simply policing policy

Previous experience in an SME environment would be ideal, and you must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate with pace, pragmatism and limited infrastructure are likely to be a strong advantage.

Sector experience is not important; we’re much more interested in your approach, experience, and ability to make a difference.

This role can be part-time or full time and they have a hybrid working policy. You will need to be comfortable travelling to other sites in South Yorkshire & the East Midlands when required.

What’s on Offer?

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Opportunity to shape the role and partner with senior leadership to drive a high performance culture
  • Generous base salary of up to £55k + benefits
  • Bonus scheme
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a successful business at an important stage of its development and build something rather than inherit something. You’ll have genuine visibility with senior leadership, the freedom to improve how HR operates and the opportunity to influence performance, management capability, engagement and culture across the organisation.

If you’re an experienced HR professional looking for a role where your ideas will be heard and your impact will be visible, we’d love to hear from you.
